If music were the rhythm of Filipino culture, Original Pilipino Music would be its instrument. And data shows that the genre is gaining popularity – as of January 1, 2019 OPM content has garnered close to 10 billion streams on Spotify with young Filipinos (18 to 24 year olds) discovering on its platform.
Take next year’s FOUND Music Festival and its local lineup headlined by award-winning pop funk band IV of Spades, consisting of vocalist, bassist and keyboardist Zild Benitez, vocalist and lead guitarist Blaster Silonga, and drummer Badjao de Castro. Aside from their numerous hits and fan favorites, the band is also known for their 1970s-inspired outfits and fresh take on local sound.
Adding more fun to next year’s music festival is Manila-based indie folk band The Ransom Collective. The band, which consists of Kian Ransom, Jermaine Peck, Leah Halili, sisters Lily and Muriel Gonzales, and Redd Claudio, first received wide public attention when they won first place at Wanderland Music and Arts Festival’s pre-event Wanderband competition in January 2014.
Joining IV of Spades and The Ransom Collective is up-and-coming acoustic duo Leanne and Naara. In September 2016, the singing-songwriting duo got the biggest surprise of their lives when their debut single ‘Again’ rose to the top of the Spotify charts, taking the No. 1 spot in the Philippines, No. 2 in Singapore and Indonesia, and No.3 in Malaysia, and No. 12 in the Global Viral Charts.
Watch IV of Spades, The Ransom Collective, and Leanne and Naara on February 08, 2020 at the the Filinvest City Events Grounds as they perform live at the annual FOUND Music Festival.
